DSC Goes To: Venice Piazza and Grand Canal at McKinley Hill

Hello friends!

Last December 2015, my officemate Leigh informed me that she saw a Facebook photo of the Venice Grand Canal in BGC, Taguig City. She liked the page and I saw it. I was amazed by how the structure resembles much of the actual Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. When I found out that the place is just around BGC, I decided for myself to visit it either on the last week of December or on January 2016.

Here's my exact post I've shared from the Venice Piazza at McKinley Hill's page:

On January 31, 2016, I decided to visit the place to visually experience the grandeur and elegance that this new attraction offers to everyone. From my home place in Antipolo City, I traveled to Taguig City. I know it is very, very far from me. But since I love going places, or I mean far places, and I have been to BGC before so the McKinley Hill is new for me, I give it a go.

To reach the McKinley Hill and you're at ease with the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) ride, just stop at the Ayala Station and go to the BGC Bus Terminal. Take the West Route and drop at the 5th Avenue, just when you're about to enter BGC. Ride a jeepney with the FTI Gate 3 on the signboard and drop at the area when the driver said that it's McKinley. Take a few more walks, reaching the Lawton Avenue and you're at the McKinley Hill.

Just to get familiar with the landmark that means you've reached McKinley Hill, look for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Headquarters.

As you enter the area, you can't get to the main piazza just yet. You need to walk a little more to get there. Look for an overpass, cross there and you're in the Venice Piazza vicinity already.

The facade of the piazza has a fountain with the name of the place in it. There are a lot of people when I visited because it's a weekend. When I entered the place, there is a plaza which is decorated with Chinese lamp parols (that's how I describe it so let me know what does it exactly called).

It's the Chinese New Year season thus the decorations. There is a small fountain in the middle that is not operational. The Venice Piazza is actually a hall of restaurants where you can dine with a variety of cuisines to choose from. There are some fast food and fine dining restaurants to choose from.

Then, I went to the main attraction of the piazza: The Venice Grand Canal where there is a man-made river and the surrounding buildings somehow resemble the original one in Venice, Italy.

There are two bridges where you can cross along. However, only one bridge is open to public. And it's crowded with a lot of people taking selfies of themselves.

Here are the best photos shot at the Venice Piazza and Venice Grand Canal:

The Venice Grand Canal and Piazza are great and beautiful for me. However, it is not yet fully completed. There are still empty stalls and some stalls are still under renovation. In short, it's not yet done. But the Megaworld Corporation has decided to opened it to the public for them to experience at least the Grand Canal. I think the completion of this project will be in the last quarter of 2016 or earlier.

If you're into food adventure and want to have an Venetian experience to your trip, you may try the Venice Piazza and Venice Grand Canal at McKinley Hill. It is open daily from 11AM to 11PM.

Did you already visit this place? How was your experience? Let me know in the comments below and share your thoughts.

I hope these help and until the next journey. Have a great day everybody! :)

What's In Store Here?

Hello everybody!

Sorry for the late update. I have a hard time creating blogs for the past days, well for a month already, because of connectivity issues (damn, internet service provider!) and I have an issue with the operating system of my laptop (I overlooked that when I bought it two months ago). To the point that I have to downgrade and upgrade it just to get the right OS for me. Talk about struggles and being an OC. #whew

Anyway, now that all things are almost resolved, I just want to give you an overview of what this blog will talk about in the coming days, weeks and months. First of all, this is an all-around blog, so you will expect a variety of contents here from food, beauty, photography, places, and other things that are close to me or I’m interested in. Second, these contents are categorized as follows:
  • DSC Reviews: reviews on products I’ve used, whether it is a beauty product, a gadget, or other things that most people use.
  • DSC Eats: thoughts on different foods I’ve tasted, will it be a main course, dessert, beverage, snacks, etc.
  • DSC Goes To: sharing my experience on visiting or traveling to a city, province, establishment, museums, and others.
  • DSC Talks: my opinions on different topics of interest like current events, latest trends, and talked about subjects

Each of my posts will have these labels so that it will be easier to navigate as soon as more entries came in. Being a certified OCD, everything must be neat. Pleasing to the eye, teasing enough to read. *wink*

I have a lot of things to share with you and I am excited about it. It’s my way of sharing my knowledge and experience to the online community.

Anyhoo, stay tuned for these in the coming days. Have a great day, everybody!

Hello 2016!

Happy New Year, friends!

Fireworks shot at the back of my office (Yes, I've spent my New Year at work. Hehe.)

As a way of welcoming 2016, I decided to go back to something that I really want to do: blogging. Over the years, I’ve tried to blog but I was not given the proper opportunity to do it consistently. I’ve created a lot of blog sites which I will just abandon later on. Just because, I’m busy and pre-occupied with a lot of things. Now, with the new laptop that I have that as a birthday gift for myself, I can now be motivated and blog about the things I like and love to share with you.

I started blogging in college. But I always forget it because I don’t have time and I don’t have a PC or laptop, though in my second year to fourth year college, I have one. However, because of all the school activities and I am so focused on studies, I don’t have time for it. My PC was sold as soon as I graduated because we no longer have money that time, that’s why I wasn’t able to manage it. Also, I want to have a laptop when I blog because I’m an OC and I can’t blog on mobile phone or tablet. I want it on PC/laptop. Haha!

I’ve created another one after college, and again I wasn’t able to manage it because of the hectic work schedule. The last entry that I have written was in 2013, a year-end blog. I’m planning to deactivate that blog site and will just focus on blogging here.

I want to blog because I want to share something that people might use in the future (depending on the content that I will share). I just want to type all the great things I’ve experienced from food, travel, personal stuff (make-up in short), life decisions, etc. This humble blog site is a good addition to all of my internet accounts that I have. I cannot say it’s a Social Media account unless good interaction will take place here in my blogosphere.

So what will be up to me in 2016? Like most people would say, I don’t know. But, I have a lot of plans for myself. I want to travel outside Manila, eat delectable food, enjoy more movies (I’m starting to be a movie buff because I have watched 32 movies in 2015), what else? Those are my top 3 in my bucket list. And hopefully, my new Belle De Jour (BDJ) Power Planner will help me out. Thank you to my best friend Daniel for giving me this planner as a birthday gift.

We should start with a clean slate for 2016 and forget all the clutter that we have in 2015 and carry along the lessons we’ve learned and great things we’ve experience with us as we welcome a new year. I have a positive attitude that it will be a good year to me, just like how 2015 has been great to me overall.

And I have a mantra for this year, as suggested in my BDJ Planner:

“This 2016, I will live bright and bold by: being unstoppable!”

Yes, no one can stop me from reaching my goals and achieving the things that will make me happy.
I hope everyone will have a fantastic year ahead and may the Lord God guide us along this journey this.

Cheers to a brand new life! :)

My New Laptop

Hi friends!

I have mentioned in my last blog that I'll be purchasing a new laptop if God permits. Guys, lo and behold! I found one! *screams happily*

Here is my new Acer Aspire E5-411 in Light Blue! Yay!

The Acer Aspire E5-411
It's a second hand one and I bought it at a PC shop in Gilmore, New Manila, Quezon City last December 4. It was not my actual choice since I am just looking for an affordable second laptop at P10,000 or less. I bought it at P11,900, 19% more than my budget but that's okay. Hehe.

I love the light blue cover of it and it's lightweight. Best of all, it's never repaired. The warranty sticker of it is still intact and according to the owner of the shop (he is a Korean, I think), the former owner only used it for 3 months. What a great find, right?

I considered it the post-birthday reward for myself (I celebrated my 25th birthday last November 28) and just got my 13th month pay when I had this. I have checked off one item on my wishlist for 2015. WOOHOO!!! :)

I will now be motivated to do my blog about anything under the sun by 2016! Well, time to reorganize all my Social Media channels and ditch out my old WordPress blog for good (sorry, WordPress). I think, I can manage better with Blogger than WordPress. I still have my Tumblr account which is also a semi-blog site as well, but it's my photo back actually.

Anyways, I am just so happy that I have a laptop of my own. I am now motivated to do my plans with the help of it.

For now, I will just enjoy my new baby and will build my new blog come 2016.

The best of luck to me! Heehee!

Get Ready for 2016!

Hi, friends!

I know, I know. MIA (Missing In Action).

Sorry for that, I was occupied obviously. Since I don't have a laptop and I can't rely fully on my iPad, I can't blog regularly. But don't fret! Hopefully before 2015 ends, I can now have a new laptop of my own and start my blogging by 2016. *fingers crossed*

Anyway, just so you know this blog is still active. Just hibernating. Hehe.

See you in 2016! Or... as soon as I got my laptop. :)

Employees' Rights

This is for my own reference as how I interpret as I read it. I am having issues with my work as the Client is too pushy on requiring a mandatory overtime, extending to our Rest Days. I mean, what the heck!!!

Anyway, I will just jot the details I need here. Well, if you need some reference on important sections of our Labor Code, I will just list it below. Hope it will be helpful to you, as well as mine.

* * * * *
Book 3 of the Labor Code of the Philippines states that:
A. The normal hours of work of any employee shall not exceed 8 hours a day (Article 83, Chap. 1).
B. Work may be performed beyond 8 hours a day provided that the employee is paid for the overtime work, an additional compensation equivalent to his regular wage plus at least 25% thereof. Work performed beyond 8 hours on a holiday or rest day shall be paid an additional compensation equivalent to the rate of the first eight hours on a holiday or rest day plus at least 30% thereof (Art. 87, Chap. 1)
C. Any employee may be required by the employer to perform overtime work in any of the following cases:
1. When the country is at war or when any other national or local emergency has been declared by the National Assembly or the Chief Executive;
2. When it is necessary to prevent loss of life or property or in case of imminent danger to public safety due to an actual or impending emergency in the locality caused by serious accidents, fire, flood, typhoon, earthquake, epidemic, or other disaster or calamity;
3. When there is urgent work to be performed on machines, installations, or equipment, in order to avoid serious loss or damage to the employer or some other cause of similar nature;
4. When the work is necessary to prevent loss or damage to perishable goods; and
5. Where the completion or continuation of the work started before the eighth hour is necessary to prevent serious obstruction or prejudice to the business or operations of the employer. (Art. 89, Chap. 1)
D. It shall be the duty of every employer, whether operating for profit or not, to provide each of his employees a rest period of not less than 24 consecutive hours after every 6 consecutive normal work days. (Art. 91, Chap. 2)
E. The employer may require his employees to work on any day:
1. In case of actual or impending emergencies caused by serious accident, fire, flood, typhoon, earthquake, epidemic or other disaster or calamity to prevent loss of life and property, or imminent danger to public safety;
2. In cases of urgent work to be performed on the machinery, equipment, or installation, to avoid serious loss which the employer would otherwise suffer;
3. In the event of abnormal pressure of work due to special circumstances, where the employer cannot ordinarily be expected to resort to other measures;
4. To prevent loss or damage to perishable goods;
5. Where the nature of the work requires continuous operations and the stoppage of work may result in irreparable injury or loss to the employer; and
6. Under other circumstances analogous or similar to the foregoing as determined by the Secretary of Labor and Employment. (Art. 92, Chap. 2)
...any violation of the provisions of this Code declared to be unlawful or penal in nature shall be punished with a fine of not less than One Thousand Pesos (P1,000.00) nor more than Ten Thousand Pesos (P10,000.00) or imprisonment of not less than three months nor more than three years, or both such fine and imprisonment at the discretion of the court. (Art. 288, Title 1, Book 7)
All working individuals must be very equipped with their rights and they should be compensated fairly and they must not be forced to work on times when it doesn't necessary needed.

Hello to Me here on Blogger!

Hello! :)

Hello to me here on Blogger! I'm thinking for a long, long time if I will really pursue having a site on Blogger since I have been using WordPress for some time. But actually, I haven't been blogging there for one and a half years. Just updated it a few days ago. You may check my WordPress site if you are interested.

Going back, yep! Actually I am thinking of deactivating my WordPress and just pour myself here but I am not sure yet. I am still weighing the potentials of Blogger if it is better than WordPress.

As of this writing, I am struggling to put a link to direct you to the WordPress site and trying to remember my HTML skills back then but it's a major FAIL!!! Hahahaha! I need to review my HTML and CSS notes by now. I don't want to waste what I have learned in Object-Oriented Programming, hehe. *picks up my HTML/CSS notes*

Anyway, I hope I can glue myself here seriously and maybe be a freelance writer pretty soon. Well, I am trying. Just trying. Good luck to me.

For now, I will just go back to work. Just sneaked in here. Oops!

Bye for now! :D

PS: By the way, here is my first photo post here. Please forgive me.
